

The Association of University Directors of Estates (AUDE) and the Higher Education Environmental Performance Improvement (HEEPI) network are organising a visit to the University of Southampton’s new Administration and Student Services (ASS) building, which was highly commended in the 2005-6 Green Gowns award. The presentations will describe the building’s architectural and engineering features, its energy performance, and the design process which created it.
The workshop, on 8 February, will include a tour of both the ASS building, and the University’s new CHP plant. Completed in 2005, the latter now feeds most of the buildings on the campus (a scheme which is short listed for the 2006-7 Green Gown Awards).
As well as highlighting the design features that help to reduce energy consumption and other environmental impacts, the event will also demonstrate that sustainability can contribute to:
