Wood for Gold

Influential industry bodies - including TRADA, wood. for good, and the Timber Trades Foundation - have joined forces to promote the use of wood at the 2012 Olympics. Their campaign, Wood for Gold, will prepare a paper for the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA). wood. for good has already steamed ahead, publishing a new book “Wide span wood sports structures”, which demonstrates how timber can be used in sustainable sports buildings.

Advantages include:

  • sourcing materials from sustainably managed - and relatively local - forests can reduce the building’s overall carbon footprint
  • wood is light and strong, so savings can be made on foundations, transport and erection.

The booklet includes several stunning case studies of sports structures around the world, including the Sydney Showground Exhibition Buildings.
