Whole house hvac powered by renewables
Researchers in Canada have developed and tested an energy-efficient, heating, ventilating, air-conditioning and domestic hot water heating system for houses that is powered by renewable energy. The system, which could cut domestic energy requirements in half, comprises a ground heat exchanger, ground source heat pump, in-floor radiant heating, heat recovery ventilation system, photovoltaic generation and net-metered grid storage. The team, led by Joel T Good, modelled their design using the open-source building simulation software ESP-r.
Full details of their study have been published in the latest issue of the International Journal of Green Energy.
