SBEM for non-domestic buildings (IP2/07)

by T Johnson

This Information Paper, recently published by IHS BRE Press, will help designers, building services engineers, facilities managers and building control officers to understand the Simplified Building Energy Model (SBEM) and how it works as a core energy calculation tool.

The IP describes the basis of SBEM, the input information it requires, where this information comes from, and which energy consumption issues are included. It also considers the use of SBEM for other applications outside the compliance checks, and describes an interface tool (iSBEM) for presenting the resulting data and a tool (BRUKL) for checking for compliance with the requirements of the EPBD.
