ASHRAE standard redefines energy-efficient homes

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) has published a new 2007 residential energy efficiency standard - ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 90.2-2007, Energy-Efficient Design of Low-Rise Residential Buildings - which sets out minimum requirements for the energy-efficient design of residential buildings.

In particular, the Standard has been modified to reach beyond its natural territory of the United States and Canada - including climate data for China, Taiwan, Malaysia and Mexico. Perhaps most significant, however, the Standard now gives a clearer definition of ‘conditioned space’, which will help in assessing when and how such spaces should be classified.
