Carbon-neutral school of the future wins CIAT Student Award

Jonathan McGee, studying at Sheffield Hallam University, has won the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) Student Award for Technical Excellence in Architectural Technology for his design of the first carbon-neutral ‘school of the future’.

The judges said Jonathan’s entry was well-researched presentation and clear scheme – “an excellent submission.”

Sheffield Hallam University was well represented in the competition, scooping both second and third prizes too. Professor Sam Allwinkle, Chairman of the judging panel, commended the University for the quality of work submitted by its students and because it had taken up the competition’s challenge by integrating the award into its undergraduate Architectural Technology programme as part of the final year’s assessment.

The Award includes a prize of £750 and a trophy.
