Future Vision could give your career a kick start

Future Vision is a contest that encourages UK undergraduate and postgraduates from built environment disciplines to ‘see things differently’ and submit ideas that can create better places for people.

The award categories for Future Vision 08 include:

* Future Building – new designs that improve the way buildings serve the community

* Future Space – new ways to maximise the use of space in communities

* Future Streets – plans for streets that enhance the lives of residents.

The contest is organised by the Academy for Sustainable Communities (ASC) – the government’s regeneration skills agency – and is open to anyone studying in full time, higher education, anywhere in the UK, including those studying for Masters and PhD degrees.

Winners will each receive £1000 and an all-expenses-paid work placement with a leading organisation from the sustainable communities sector.

Last year’s winner, Gethin Owens, says the competition helped launch his career in sustainable communities: “I’ve patented my idea ... and, as a direct result of the exposure I’ve received since winning the award, I’ve secured a permanent job.”

Full details are at www.futurevisionaward.com.

Closing date: 29 February 2008
