CAT launches distance learning for two popular courses

The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) in North Wales has launched a distance learning option for its popular MSc Architecture: Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies, and for the Professional Diploma in Architecture.

Starting in September 2008 CAT is open its long-standing and popular Masters course to distance learning as well as conventional students – making it ideal for those with a first degree who are already working in the built environment sector, or thinking of moving into it.

The course explores the technical, social, political and economic aspects of environmental and energy issues at both global and local levels. Taught lectures from field experts, practical exercises and individual research, combined with tutorials and seminars among supportive staff and enthusiastic peers allow students to develop a wide breadth of skills and knowledge while giving the flexibility to investigate areas of interest in more depth.

Also new for 2008 is the Professional Diploma in Architecture: Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies. Starting in September 2008, this course is for students of architecture who have already gained Part 1 exemption and who wish to study for the Part 2 examination through the subject of environment and energy within the context of architectural design. This programme concentrates on design and a wide range of current environmental issues in a unique combination of design, academic study and practical experience that will equip students with design experience and vocational skills. The programme runs residential modules at CAT but also includes a study tour and a residential Summer School usually held in London.
