Kingston student scoops national design prize

Regine Elmenthaler, studying landscape architecture at Kingston University, has secured the top prize at Future Vision 08 - a national awards scheme for young people.

Her award-winning vision would bring life back into the Royal Docks in East London by creating a series of floating docks that extend the existing landscape to make room for markets, gardens, homes, green space and even a beach.

Part of her prize is a four-week work placement with the Thames Gateway, where the development company intends to review what aspects of her entry could be applied to the Gateway to help make the best use of the natural environment and improve places.

Regine Elmenthaler was one of five winners announced as part of the government’s national award scheme for sustainable communities ‘Creating the Future – the ASC Awards for Sustainable Communities. Each winner received a cash prize and a four-week work placement.
