WRAP, the government-backed Waste & Resources Action Programme, has developed a simple web-based tool to help cut the amount - and cost - of construction waste.
The Net Waste Tool can be used to forecast waste arisings and identify key actions that can be taken to reduce that waste. Having targeted the main sources of waste, you can use the Tool to help develop a suitable waste segregation strategy and maximise opportunities for waste recovery. The Tool can also be used to calculate potential savings, such as the cost of materials that have been wasted, the cost of waste disposal, and the carbon impact of waste reduction and recovery.
Data gathered though the website will feed into a benchmarking database; and WRAP says the system will helps clients, design teams and contractors to plan and evaluate a range of waste-related factors that have an impact on both project costs and sustainability.
